Each year, I feel that God gives me a word for the year, as a kind of banner over my year. Last year my word was "dreams," and as I look back, it truly was that. I dreamed about recording my very first personal EP in 2018, and I saw that dream become a reality. And not only that, but I saw God bring another musical dream to life - developing a songwriting culture and recording our own music in the worship at C3 Church.
Truly, 2018 was a year to be remembered forever. It took a lot of work, but it was SO worth it.
As I was driving the other day on a busy interstate in Raleigh, I looked and couldn't believe what I saw. I had to do a double-take but, sure enough, right in front of me was a bald eagle landing in a tree just to the side of the road. Now, I don't know much about where bald eagles are found in North Carolina, but I can say for sure that I have NEVER seen one in the wild here in NC until that day.
The moment I saw that eagle, I knew in my heart of hearts that my word for 2019 would be "soar." I struggled with that for a bit because I thought it seemed presumptuous, but came to the realization that I probably shouldn't question God. I've been processing it all since then.
I shared this with a friend, who then asked the question "So when is it that you know you're soaring? When does a bird go from flying to soaring?" I blurted out "I don't know, I guess when it stops having to flap its wings." I thought about it, and realized that answer was actually a lot deeper than it seemed.
but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.
So for me, this year is a year of surrender, a year of hoping in The Lord, a year of renewed strength, and a year to soar.
I'd encourage you to dig into scripture and ask God what your word for the year is. What is it that God wants to teach you? What is it He wants to lead you to? I'd love to hear what your word for the year is. Post in the comments below!
